Before and After

Holly Beach before Rita. A lovely little resort town. And then Holly Beach after Rita. When I visited there last week there was still nothing standing except for one nearly destroyed building and two portable toilets. Some of you wanted to see a before and after photo. I have others. Bear with me as I learn how to post them. I haven't figured out how to post several in one message yet, so they will be in separate comment areas for now.

WOW! That is shocking! I have more than a thousands words after seeing those pictures! It's amazing what you're oblivious to when you're not right there living it.

Thanks for the pictures, it's hard to picture what happened unless you've seen it and I don't think Rita received the same coverage as Katrina. I live in NJ but my folks experienced the wrath of Rita. Yesterday, I received the first phone call from the Red Cross. I had contacted them after Rita in the first days of the three weeks when my family had no electricity or water and grandparents with major health problems to overcome without those resources, no gas to travel, no stores to purchase goods at. Thankfully, neighbors and churches pulled together and pooled resources, worked on each other's houses and they all came out the other end without the need of the Red Cross. I just couldn't believe that they were just getting around to calling me back months after it happened. Good thing we didn't wait for them.
